Fairfield is a little town in Southeast Iowa with a big culture.
Juxtaposed with the classic, idyllic trappings of a small midwestern town (picturesque town square, fields dotted with cows, etc) are the country’s only high school and University that teach Consciousness-based Education (where students practice Transcendental Meditation twice a day as part of their curriculum).
Roll into this a monthly ArtWalk that draws up to 2,500 people from around the region to 25 art galleries and venues, the first solar powered radio station in the Midwest, the most homes with solar energy or other green building features in Iowa, more Inc. 500 companies than any other town its size in the USA, more restaurants per capita than San Francisco (representing over 10 nationalities), and – the true soul town – the people; and what you get is is the truly unique and amazing town of Fairfield, Iowa.
Or as we call it, Peacetown, USA.
